How did I determine the rankings? (Question from golf nerds)
By taking the Golf Digest and Golf.com rankings over the past 5 years, I averaged their rankings to get a better idea of which courses were truly in the Top 100. Each year, different courses make appearances on the list, existing courses get bumped off, and new courses get constructed across the globe. My rankings take these varying factors into account. Brand new courses, previously unranked in older lists like 2019 and 2020, do not get penalized in their average score calculation. Courses that fall out of the Top 100 automatically get assigned the spot of '101'. And new courses that appear on the list when they've never been before also are subjected to a '101' ranking on older lists in which they didn't make the cut. Sound simple? Probably not, but that is okay. Just know my rankings are the most fair and up-to-date taking and averaging the scores/opinions of 3 different golf media outlets: Golf.com, Golf World, and Golf Digest over the past five years.
Where do I keep all of these calculations? And why?
In a Microsoft Excel sheet that I would be more than happy to share with anyone for a small cost. Every year a new list or rankings are made from Golf Digest, Golf.com, etc., I update the Excel and BOOM, just like that, the courses averages are updated and so are the rankings.
Why do I do this? My goal of playing the Top 100 courses in the United States (public & private, separate lists) and Internationally will take my whole lifetime at the very least. Every few years, new rankings are released by media outlets and new courses are erected, therefore, rather than hopping from new list to new list, by keeping a running average, I have my own Top 100 rankings that change, but not as drastically as the media outlets.
For any inquiries pertaining to my golf blog, please reach out to me! Whether it's questions about the courses I've played, my rankings datasheet, to invite me to play at your home course :^) , or to just talk golf, I implore you to not be a stranger.
